Rockcrawling is the newest and fastest growing form of motorsport. Teams attempt to navigate their vehicles through preset courses by climbing and descending extremely steep rock walls, crossing over large boulders, and traversing deep crevasses. Each team is comprised of a vehicle, a driver, and a “spotter” who remains outside the vehicle to help guide the driver through the approximately 100 yards of carnage...they actually face 5 to 8 of these courses on each day of the 2-day events. The object of competition is to complete each course within a maximum time limit (normally 10 minutes) without hitting the cones or banners which define the course. Penalties accrue for touching cones/banners, stopping forward progress, backing up, or winching. The team with the lowest amount of penalty points at the end is named champion.

Crowds are attracted in droves as the competitions push these high-tech vehicles to their limits. Roll-overs, wheelies, and unbelievable climbs that require precision driving and heart-stopping acceleration are taking place nonstop. It is normal to see these teams roll multiple times, right their vehicle, and continue on to complete the course...all to the thunderous approval from the thousands of spectators attending the events.

As the popularity of the sport has grown, so has the attention of the media. It is common to see camera crews from cable channels, local news channels, extreme sports video producers, magazines and newspapers, all vying for that “money shot” this sport has become known for. No doubt, Becca Webster, Dustin Webster, Frank Johnson, Jody Everding and the Red Bull Rockcrawling Team are the ones to watch…driving on the cutting edge while relating well with the crowds and media. From their monthly features in the industry magazines, to the internationally acclaimed documentary “Extremists” distributed worldwide on Discovery, to their constant appearances in shows like the Travel Channel’s “Kings of the Road” and Univision’s “Premier Impacto,” it’s easy to see how they are bringing this sport to the world stage. Most recently, you’ll find them featured on Inside Edition and StoneGate Media’s presentations of the UROC Pro National Series airing on ESPN II.
